Distance Learning Update

Dear Sam Houston Families,

I hope that this email finds you well. This week our teachers have worked hard on getting materials ready for our Distance Learning at home. Teachers have contacted every child’s parent/guardian to communicate the school’s plan for distance learning. If you have not heard from your child’s teacher, we may not have the correct contact information on file for you. Please reach out to your child’s teacher via email to ensure that you don’t miss key information from the school.

Our plan is to start our Distance Learning on Monday, March 23. Each Monday we will send home learning activities and assignments either via electronic delivery or paper copies to be picked up at school. The following Monday we will collect the prior week’s assignments as evidence of your child’s work during this time as well as providing the following week’s new learning activities.

If you have requested a paper copy, through your child’s teacher, you can pick them up at the school as follows:

Students’ Last Names that begin with:

  • A-F 10:00 am-11:00 am
  • G-M 11:00 am – 12:00 pm
  • N-Z 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm

Procedures for picking up packets:

Parents will remain in their vehicles. Pick up will be in the back of the school. We will form one line of vehicles. When you get to the front of the line, you will indicate to the person the students’ name, grade level, and if you need an English or Spanish packet. If you have more than one student you will indicate the above information for each child.

We are currently working on developing an online platform where you can download the materials include in the paper packet for each week. The students will need to use their login information to access these materials. If student’s need assistance with their login information, reach out to your child’s teacher.

We appreciate your flexibility as we adjust to the information that we receive on a daily basis. Our goal is to ensure the safety of all of our students and families. We, here at Sam Houston Elementary, will continue to stress that the best way to prevent infection is to take precautions to avoid exposure to the virus. Please continue to practice the following:

  • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer (60% or more alcohol).
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

Next week we will have limited staff available at the campus. If you should need assistance you will need to call the school between the hours of 7:30 – 3:30 to make an appointment. Our building is closed to non-essential staff. However, we are working remotely to meet the needs of our students and families any way that we can. Stay safe.
